Paint Textured Ceiling - It's Easier Than You Think
It is very easy to paint textured ceiling designs throughout your home. The proper tools are essential for this job and the one you most need to worry about is a textured ceiling brush. The type of brush you buy and how you use it will determine your results. A popcorn texture is the one most people are familiar with as it is a feature of almost all buildings constructed in the 1970s and 1980s. The reason for this is that builders were trying to cut costs of new homes during a depressed economy. If you wish to achieve this look in your home, all that is required is that you follow some simple steps.
Preparation
Remove any peeling and wash the ceiling before proceeding. Be sure to remove any traces of soap as this will interfere with the adhesion of new paint. If you have any issues, such as mold or mildew, correct them now. Patch any holes and caulk joints and seam. Only use paint caulk to ensure the paint will adhere in these areas.
Setting Up Your Work Area Remove as much furniture as possible. Cover any remaining pieces and the floor with drop clothes. Apply tape where the ceiling meets the walls to ensure you don’t get textured material where you do not want it. Gather your materials and you are ready to start. Painting Now you are ready to begin painting popcorn ceiling. Stir it before beginning. If you wish to apply a primer or base coat, do this first and allow it to dry. Cut in around the edges of the ceiling with a textured ceiling mix. You may also use drywall compound which has been thinned with water. The mixture, if you choose to make your own, should be the consistency of thick paint. Use a long-nap paint roller to apply this substance. Now take your ceiling brush and swirl it around in the mixture you just applied. Complete this step in a small area before proceeding to the next. The process will need to be repeated until the entire ceiling is covered. Completing the Job Once the texture has been applied, you may need to paint it. This will depend on what type of texture mix you used. It is best to use a premium quality as this will last longer than discount types. Textured ceilings are not easy to repaint so it is best to do it right the first time. As you can see, a paint textured ceiling is easy to incorporate into your home. You may even want to do this in a number of rooms. |
