How To Texture A Ceiling
The texture on the ceiling in your home can actually set the mood for the room. Some people like popcorn ceilings whereas others don’t like that look and prefer swirls or ripples. There are also other ways to create unique ceilings which includes using glitter to add sparkle or even add some color for ambiance. Adding texture can also hide imperfections and make it look better. Texturing ceiling techniques vary, but most of the tools and supplies you will need are pretty standard. Here are some valuable tips on how to texture a ceiling.
Supplies and Equipment:
- Premixed joint compound (for drywall)
- A wide blade taping knife
- A thick napped paint roller
- Water for thinning compound
Preparation:
- Move all the furniture from the room in which you will be working. It this is not possible place drop cloths over the furniture.
- Strip any wall paper that may be on before you begin to texture drywall ceiling areas. It is not wise to try to texture over it as it can cause it to fall apart and that texturing time would be wasted.
Pre-Texturing:
First you will edge completely around the ceiling by applying a thin layer of drywall compound for smooth textures and a little thicker for rougher textures. There is no such thing as getting this perfect since the whole point is to create diverse texture. A varied design is how to texture a ceiling and make it unique to your home.
Texturing:
If you are new to applying ceiling textures, you will want to find instructions for various textures before you attempt anything. You can also view videos or go to workshops that show you how to texture a ceiling.
